What is CGI?
CGI, or Common Gateway Interface, is the method by which a Web server can obtain or send data from/to databases, documents, and other programs, and present that data to viewers via the Web. Put in laymen terms... CGI is programming for the Web. A CGI script can be written in many different programming languages but the language of choice is Perl. The best thing about CGI is the simple fact that it can make your Webpages interactive. Most of us have been to a Website where you fill out a form and submit it. Most of these forms are CGI scripts. If you are developing a business or e commerce site, we highly recommend that you learn how to use CGI scripts. You can learn how to implement a CGI script without knowing how to program in Perl. HTML is the only thing you really need to know in order to use some of these scripts.
